Paige Sommers, a senior at Westlake High in California and a Duke signee, set the national high school outdoor pole vault record and achieved the American Under-20 all-time mark with a 14-8.50 (4.48m) clearance on his first attempt April 3 to win the women's open section at the Vaulter Club Vaulter Magazine Frosh/Soph Championships at the Big Red Barn facility in Sun City, Calif. Sommers surpassed the June 26 performance of 14-8.25 (4.48m) achieved by Leah Pasqualetti of Orchard Park, N.Y., at the Big Red Barn facility at the Vaulter Club Vaulter Magazine Stars and Stripes meet. She elevated to the No. 15 all-time World U-20 performer, along with ascending to No. 6 among American outdoor competitors and equal to No. 10 in the world this year.
