Senior Paige Sommers of Westlake High in California cleared 14-3.25 (4.35m), the top outdoor prep mark in the country this year, on her second attempt to place runner-up to Kortney Oates, who successfully made the height on her first attempt, at the Vaulter Club Vaulter Magazine Grand Prix Spring event Saturday at the Big Red Barn facility in Sun City, Calif. It marked the second-highest career clearance of the Duke-bound Sommers, trailing only her national junior class record and California high school all-time mark 14-6 (4.42m) last year at the Thousand Oaks Invitational. She also became only the second female athlete to surpass the 14-foot barrier three times at the Big Red Barn facility, along with Oates.
