Pole vault standouts Taylor Starkey of Casteel High in Arizona, along with California standouts Katerina Adamiec of Poway, Ashley Callahan of Rancho Bernardo and Paige Sommers of Westlake join DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss the competition Saturday at the Desert Dream - Last Hurrah at Poston Butte High in San Tan Valley, Arizona. Starkey, a Kansas signee, is the Arizona state record holder at 13-6 (4.11m). Sommers is both the California state and national junior class record holder at 14-6 (4.41m). Callahan is both the 2019 state champion and 2020 Winter Outdoor state gold medalist with a personal-best 13-6 clearance, and the UCLA-bound Adamiec recently cleared a personal-best 13-0.75 (3.98m) at the Vaulter Club Vaulter Magazine Big Red Barn Meet in Menifee, Calif. The quartet has not vaulted together at the same competition since Jan. 18 indoors at the UCS Spirit National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, with Callahan and Starkey both clearing 13-4 (4.06m), and Callahan prevailing on fewer attempts. Sommers, Callahan and Adamiec all vaulted together at the Vaulter Club Vaulter Magazine Big Red Barn Meet.
