HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS ROUNDUP: La Cañada boys' water polo holds off Mira Costa rally in Div. III showdown

Central Park Invitational: In the girls' Div. I, 3-mile race, Saugus placed four runners in the top 10 and finished in first place as a team.

Samantha Ortega - a sophomore - was the highest placer for the Centurions after she finished second with a time of 17:19.01. Abigail Frankian placed fifth with a time of 18:04.13, Olivia Altieri finished seventh with 18:29.03 and Darby LaPlant was the fourth from Saugus in the top ten with a time of 18:30.46 and an eighth-place finish. Teammate Nina Sassano finished in 11th place with a time 18:41.55 and freshman Ashley Heys placed 17th with a time of 19:04.94.

Jenny Giguere of Westlake finished 13th with a time of 18:48.33.

In the boys' race, A.J. Yarnall of Saugus was the highest local finisher in the boys' 3-mile race when he placed third with a time of 15:32.30. His teammates Rodrigo Ornelas, who finished fourth at 15:35.10, and Alex Pearson, who placed 11th with a time 16:01.70, were the others from his team to finish in the top 15.

Westlake finished with three runners in the top ten with Mikey Giguere placing fifth with 15:38.10, Chris Costa coming in eighth with 15:59.00 and Rocky Peterson finishing ninth with 16:00.00.

Saugus and Westlake finished in first and second place, respectively, in the team points standings.

In the Div. II girls' race, La Canada had runners finish in second and third place individually and placed second as a team - finishing only behind Mayfield.

Anna Frederich finished in second place with an overall time of 18:43.18 and her teammate Colleen Mispagel came in third at 19:02.03. Other Spartan runners who finished in the top 30 included Michelle Dominguez (20:07.84) at 16th, Sonja Cwik (20:25.89) at 28th and Elenor Marki (20:26.47) in 29th place.
