One day later, there’s a new champion in the Marmonte League boys’ cross country final standings.
Thousand Oaks High, which finished second in the league finals meet on Thursday at Agoura High, emerges as the overall champion, officials from Thousand Oaks said Friday.
Newbury Park and Westlake end up tied for second, while Royal finishes in fourth place. All four teams qualify for the CIF-Southern Section team playoffs.
Coaches after Thursday’s meet used an improper points system to declare Westlake as the league titlist, said league officials.
The final standings are based 50 percent on the league’s dual-meet results and 50 percent on the league championship meet.
Thousand Oaks, which tied for first in the league season to earn 112 points, added another two points on Thursday to finish with 312 points in the final standings. Westlake tied for third in the league season (312 points) and added one point in the league finals by placing first.
The Warriors’ total of 412 points leaves them in a tie for second with Newbury Park.
Thousand Oaks is the Marmonte League representative in cross country to the Southern Section. Royal reports results to the CIF-SS.
The girls’ top four teams are unchanged. League champion Simi Valley is followed by Royal, Newbury Park and Agoura.
