SARAH BAXTER

SIMI VALLEY

This is Baxter's third straight All-County selection in cross country as well as her third time as a Runner of the Year. The Simi Valley junior won her third straight state championship with a time of 16 minutes, 40 seconds to break the Woodward Park course record, and the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 meet in 15:53 on Mount San Antonio College's rain course. But her most eye-popping accomplishment was her all-time national record 16:00 at the Mount SAC Championships on the venue's regular course. No female high school cross country runner had ever run faster. Baxter's favorite athlete is Billy Mills and her favorite singer is Katy Perry. Reading is her favorite hobby. She likes watching "Bones" and eating chocolate cake.

ALYSSA FRANK

LA REINA

Frank was 12th in the Division 4 state meet with a time of 18:54. She placed third in the Tri-Valley League Championships with a 18:49 clocking. Frank took 17th in the CIF-SS championships in 17:57. Frank was also 20th in the Ventura County Championships at 19:30. The 5-foot-7, 120-pound junior was eighth at the Stanford invitational and had a time of 18:04 at the Seaside invitational. Frank enjoys photography, shopping and eating sushi. Her top movie is "Country Strong" and she likes watching "Gossip Girl" on TV. Her favorite singer is Frank Ocean, her favorite athlete is David Beckham, and her favorite team is the New England Patriots.

JENNY GIGUERE

WESTLAKE

Giguere just missed advancing to the state championships, finishing 13th in 16:49 in the CIF-SS finals. She took fifth in the Ventura County championships in 18:43 and was also fifth in the very competitive Marmonte league finals in 18:17. The 5-2½, 102-pound sophomore was a scholar-athlete as a freshman. Her favorite movie is "Bridesmaids," and she enjoys listening to Maroon 5. She likes eating sushi and her favorite athlete is former Westlake runner Nicki Ghazarian.

MONIKA GYALAY

MOORPARK

Running as an individual, Gyalay was 19th at the Division 2 CIF State Championships with a time of 18:32. She qualified for the state meet with a rain-course time of 16:43 in the CIF-SS finals. Her best time of year in a three-mile race was 17:27. Gyalay, a 5-foot-3, 90-pound sophomore, was a scholar-athlete with a 3.9 GPA. Her hobbies include knitting and swimming and cookies are her favorite food. In entertainment, Gyalay likes listening to Taylor Swift and watching "Parks and Recreation" on TV, and her top movie is "Captain America." Her favorite athletes are Oscar Pistorius and the U.S. Olympic swim team.

DESIRAE JONES

SIMI VALLEY

Jones placed 12th at the CIF-SS finals and was the Pioneers' second fastest runner at 16:47 on the Mount SAC rain course. Her time of 18:02 was good for third place at the Marmonte League Championships. Jones had a time of 18:56 at the state Division 1 championships to place 61st. Jones is a Renaissance student at Simi Valley. Her hobbies include skateboarding and playing basketball. She likes watching "The Voice" and "21 Jump Street." Maroon 5 is her favorite band, the University of Oregon is her favorite team, and skateboarder Ryan Sheckler and basketball player Derek Fisher are her favorite athletes. Jones' wide range of favorite foods include miso soup, Eggo chocolate chip waffles, salmon, cake pops and cupcakes.

COURTNEY KORVEN

SIMI VALLEY

Korven turned in a time of 18:52 to finish 53rd and help Simi Valley to a third-place finish at the CIF State Championships in Fresno. She also had a time 17:23 at the CIF-SS Division 1 finals at the Mount SAC rain course. Korven finished in 17:57 at the Woodbridge Invitational. She is a scholar-athlete and a DARE essay award winner. She likes to play guitar and watch "The Office" and "The Nightmare Before Christmas." Korven goes old school for her favorite band: Led Zeppelin. Distance runner Shalane Flanagan is her favorite athlete and Oregon is her favorite team. Favorite foods include lobster, Doritos, doughnuts and pizookies.

HANNAH KIRKEGAARD

VENTURA

Running as an individual, Kirkegaard finished 51st in the state Division 1 race at Woodward Park in Fresno with a time of 18:50. Her time of 16:29 on the Mount SAC rain course gave her fourth place at the CIF-SS finals. The 5-foot-8 senior set the Ventura school record at the Arroyo Verde course in 19:12. Kirkegaard, who has a 4.5 GPA, lists swimming, cycling, reading and listening to music as her hobbies. Olympic runner Grete Waitz is her favorite athlete. Elliott Smith is her favorite singer and burritos is her favorite food. Her top movie is "The Fall" and her favorite TV show is "The Office."

CHARLOTTE UTASH

SIMI VALLEY

Utash was the second Simi Valley runner to cross the finish line at the state championships with a time of 18:23, leading the Pioneers to a school-record third-place finish. The junior finished 18th at the CIF-SS finals on Mount SAC's rain course in 16:54. The 5-foot-3, 108-pounder is a scholar-athlete, a Renaissance student and an NHS member. Photography and baking are her hobbies. "Cake Boss" is her favorite TV show. "Bridesmaids" and Maroon 5 are her favorite movie and band, respectively. Oregon is her favorite team and Olympians Shalane Flanagan and Sam Mikulak her favorite athletes.
