Westlake High junior Paige Sommers cleared 14-1.75 (4.31m) to place second in the women's elite section of the Vaulter Club Vaulter Magazine Stars and Stripes Big Red Barn Meet in Sun City, Calif. It marked the third time this year that Sommers achieved a 14-foot clearance. It also marked the two best combined female performances in U.S. prep history, with Leah Pasqualetti of Orchard Park NY eclipsing the national high school and American U-20 outdoor records with a 14-8.25 (4.48m) clearance. It was also the fourth occasion that two prep vaulters both cleared at least 14 feet in the same competition, with twin sisters Lexi Jacobus and Tori Hoggard of Cabot High in Arkansas accomplishing the goal twice indoors in 2015, along with Nastassja Campbell of New Caney and Mackenzie Hayward of Lewisville Marcus becoming the first pair to achieve the feat outdoors at the 2018 Texas Relays. Sommers also took attempts at the all-time prep outdoor mark for the third time this year, but remains the No. 5 outdoor performer in U.S. prep history at 14-6 (4.41m).
