2013 VC Star All-County Boys First Team

 

SAHM BAZARGAN

OAK PARK

Bazargan closed out his senior cross country campaign in grand fashion, winning his second straight Ventura County championship (15:23) and being named Tri-Valley League MVP. The Star’s 2012 Runner of the Year took sixth place in the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 final (15:02) and ninth this year at the CIF state championships in Fresno (15:26). He won and set school records at the Seaside Invitational (14:28) and the Clovis Invitational (15:23). Bazargan enjoys mountain biking, spearfishing and skiing. His favorite TV show is “Top Gear,” his favorite movie is “We’re the Millers” and his top singer is Kendrick Lamar. Fettuccine is his favorite dish and Usain Bolt his favorite athlete. The 5-foot-10, 150-pound senior, who was named to the All-TVL Academic Team, is undecided on his college choice.

 

KYLE FREDRICKSON

OAKS CHRISTIAN

KYLE FREDRICKSON OAKS CHRISTIAN Fredrickson’s season peaked at the right time, starting with the Mount SAC Invitational, where he had a time of 15:15. The 6-foot, 135-pound senior took fifth place in the CIF-SS Division 4 final (15:26) and was fourth in the state championships (15:40). Fredrickson is a scholar athlete at Oaks Christian and will choose between Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Westmont or Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for a college. He enjoys eating lasagna and listening to the Jimi Hendrix Experience. He lists “Nacho Libre” as his favorite movie and Chinese table tennis player Zhang Jike as his favorite athlete.

 

MIKEY GIGUERE

WESTLAKE

The Star’s Boys Runner of the Year finished third (first team runner) in 15:21 at the CIF state championships to help lead Westlake to a second-place showing. Giguere ran 15:04 to take seventh at the CIF-SS Division 2 final at Mount SAC. He was the Marmonte League champion (15:02) for the third consecutive year after being the runner-up in the Ventura County Championships (15:28). The 5-7, 125-pound senior, who is a scholar athlete with a 3.9 GPA, will attend Cal Poly SLO next year. Giguere is a Dodgers fan, likes watching “Breaking Bad” and lists U.S. distance runner Galen Rupp as his favorite athlete. His favorite food is sushi and his favorite movie is “Forrest Gump.”

 

JUAN JIMENEZ

SIMI VALLEY

Jimenez took 12th place at the state meet with a time of 15:37. That came after a ninth-place finish at the CIF-SS Division 2 final in 15:13. Jimenez, a junior, was the runner-up in the Marmonte League final (15:03) and was fifth in the Ventura County Championships (15:43). The 5-7, 130-pounder likes listening to music, eating pasta and watching “Bones.” His favorite movie is “We’re the Millers” and his favorite team is USC.

 

GARRETT LEPINE

SIMI VALLEY

The 5-10, 145-pound senior helped lead Simi Valley to its first appearance in the state championships, where the Pioneers finished eighth. Lepine finished 19th in 15:43. At the CIF-SS Division 2 final, he took 13th in 15:19. Lepine was eighth (15:50) at the Ventura County Championships and fourth (15:21) at the Marmonte League final. His best time of the year was 15:18 at the Mount SAC Invitational. Lepine enjoys mountain biking, swimming, drawing and hiking. Matt Kemp and the Dodgers are his sports favorites and his top movie is “We’re the Millers.” Other favorites include pasta, “The Walking Dead” and Imagine Dragons.

 

SEAN O'BRYAN

WESTLAKE

O’Bryan’s 25th-place finish at the CIF state meet, where he was Westlake’s No. 2 runner in 15:50, helped the Warriors finish second. He was 23rd (15:30) in the CIF-SS Division 2 final and fifth in the Marmonte League Championships (15:24). The 6-3, 140-pound senior is a scholar athlete with a 3.6 GPA and will attend the Air Force Academy in the fall. He likes mountain biking, surfing, swimming and football. He enjoys drinking Mamma Chia and watching “Breaking Bad.” Track and bobsledder Lolo Jones is his favorite athlete.

 

MICHAEL PICCHINI

MOORPARK

A 16th-place finish in 15:40 at the CIF State Championships capped an impressive season for Picchini. That followed his 11th-place showing (15:17) at the CIF-SS Division 2 final and his third-place finish (15:18) in the Marmonte League Championships. Picchini was fourth in the Ventura County Championships at Lake Casitas in 15:38. The 5-11, 150-pound senior also had a time of 14:34 at the Seaside Invitational. Picchini is an AP scholar with distinction and is undecided on his college choice. His hobbies include hiking, pingpong and ultimate Frisbee. He roots for the Baltimore Orioles and likes Ichiro Suzuki in baseball. He lists bagels and ice cream as his favorite foods. “Through the Wormhole” and “Saturday Night Live” are his top TV shows while “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” is his favorite movie. Guitarist Sungha Jung and ukuleleist Jake Shimabukuro are his favorite musicians.
