Simi boys team makes state for 1st time

Quite the opposite grouping could be found with the Simi Valley boys team, which had a tight 54-second 1-5 gap. Juan Jimenez (15:13) and Garrett Lepine (15:19) were ninth and 13th for the Pioneers.

“This is what we’ve been training for years to accomplish,” said Simi Valley boys coach Kurt Mjoen.

Just five points behind the Simi Valley boys was 2012 champion Westlake. Mike Giguere was seventh in 15:04 and Sean O’Bryan (15:30) was 23rd.

“Division 2 in our section is almost like a state meet,” said Westlake coach Joe Snyder. “We’re happy to be moving on. Next week is next week, we’ll see how it goes then.”
